Dependent Content Control Dropdowns without VBA?
Hello everyone,
I have been trying to put together a Word form that will contain a dependent content control dropdown, preferably without VBA. I found a few things in this forum that included VBA, but since the form is going to be beyond my network, there is a strong preference for the flexibility of not needing to include a macro to influence the second dropdown. Is anyone aware if this is even possible? Alternatively, is there anyway to allow a user to start inputting into a dropdown list and the options are limited based on what matches the initially typed text? i.e. if "1.1" is typed in then the options in the dropdown would include "1.1, 1.1.1, 1.1.2, etc." This seems to be feasible with Legacy forms, but the rest of the document contains Content Controls and I'm trying to stay with these for consistency in the form to make importing into a database easier. Thank you in advance. Last edited by WeldEngineer; 06-13-2022 at 12:20 PM. Reason: Additional information. |

I know of no way in Word without vba. This is programming.
Fields in Word are a minor form of programming but I do not think they can be stretched that far. |

That's what I thought. Thank you for the validation. Are there any recommendations other than allowing for free form filling of the information?
The total number of are over 2000 distinct choices, which is the biggest reason I need consistency for data analysis. |

A Building Blocks Gallery Content Control?
Create Building Blocks (AutoText) in a custom category. These have your dependent text in whole. A choice of BB is made and that BB has the other areas to fill in or other dropdowns. |

What you want cannot be done without VBA. Even Legacy formfields - which can only contain a maximum of 25 dropdown options - could not do this without VBA.
Building Blocks (aka Quick Parts) would also require VBA for implementation - plus you'd need to include the corresponding template with them.
