I am not sure how I have accomplished this.

You have probably selected the 'Normal' Style where the (blank line) is in fact a 'Paragraph spacing' built into the style. It is probably set to 12 point spacing.

If you want things as you show in your first example then select the 'No Spacing' style. See photo.

Thanks for the explanation.

I need to use the No Spacing style in order to convert my document (book) into Kindle format.

Is there a way I could run a Replace All to achieve this?

You want to change the style of all the text in your document to 'No spacing' style? This can be done by selecting the entire document text using Ctrl+A keys together then clicking on the 'No spacing' icon.

This will cause text to move needing further editing.

The 'further editing' you mention can also be done with a Replace ALL of @ to @@.

If this is now solved you can mark it as such by clicking on 'Thread tools' and then 'Mark as solved'.

If you are using the Normal style for all your body text paragraphs, you can search for the Normal style and replace with No Spacing.

Press Ctrl+H to display the Find & Replace dialog box. Click the More button to see all options. Click in the "Find what" box and click Format > Style to locate the Normal style. Similarly, click in the "Replace with" box and specify the No Spacing style.

Click Replace All to complete the replacement.

Thank you for making the effort to explain so clearly your instructions.

However they did not quite do what I wanted. I still needed to do the extra editing.

Strangely, when I tested it out again the format options looked different. I could no longer see Normal and No Spacing but a new list starting (no style), then Heading 4 Char etc

The "char" addition is a remainder of an old bug where Word created character style versions of its built-in paragraph styles. You should see the correct style name as well. Sometimes, you have to scroll down the list (it won't necessarily be in alphabetical order).
