Document will be upgraded message
Word 16.When I save a create a new document the filename reads “documentx (compatibility mode)” and when I save it, the message “your document will be upgraded to the newest file format” appears. Why is this and how can I stop it?

Open your normal.dotm template and use
File > Info > Convert to update it out of compatibility mode. I assume you are not actually using Office 2007. If that assumption is correct, you should update your profile. |

Thanks. This worked great. Why do you suggest that I update my profile since i'm using Word 16?

Charles says that because your profile shows 'Office 2007' and it should show 'Office 2016'. See photo.

Top left 'User CP' then 'Edit your details' then select 'Office Version' on right and choose 'Office 2016' from the drop down list.
