Hi, I embedded an xl worksheet into a word doc by linking.



At that point in time, when I have both the word doc and xl doc open, if I change values in xl, they change in word. This is what I want.

However, if I close the xl doc and then reopen the xl doc and then change the values in the xl doc, there is no corresponding change in the word doc.

I am pretty sure I have linked them correctly, just looks like the link fails when I close and reopen the xls.

Both the xls and word doc are stored in SharePoint.

Any ideas?

Maybe it is a SharePoint issue and not a Word issue? Be interesting to see what experts say.

Just saved both xls and doc on network folder and have same issue.

The word doc doesn't update when I close the xls, then reopen and then change a value in the xls.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Just noticed that if I select the object in word there is an "update link" option. That seems to semi-fix the issue.

Still don't think this is as it should be though as when xls is first open and word doc initially and change a value, the word doc updates automatically.

Maybe it is a bug in Word 2021? Just guessing so not much help I know.

Is this a new problem that wasn't there before? If so then some update may have caused it and it will get fixed by another update soon. Is it possible to check for updates to Office 2021?

I have put it down to oddities of Microsoft.
There is a solution, though not very tidy, but I can live with that. 😘

Does it make a difference if the Excel file is opened BEFORE the Word doc is opened?
