inserting space at the end of each page of a list to accommodate future entries
I’ve compiled multi page alphabetical lists of the contents of various subjects.
Each line contains one title. Each list has a header with thesubject title and the date last edited and a footer with the page number. I want to leave a 10 line space at the end of each page to accommodate new entries. The idea is that as new titles are entered, only the page where the entry is made will need to be printed off to keep a hard copy of the list up to date. At present any new item moves the last line onto the following page. The list is 50 plus pages in length and clearly it would be wasteful to print off every page in order to have an up-to-date list whereas a 10 line space will allow many new lines to be inserted (and only that page por pages printed off before a new 10 line space needs to be put in. How do I do this please? |

So insert a manual page break wherever you think the page should end. That will allow you to add new content above the page break.
Do be aware, though, that you're still liable to end up with content on a new page if you add more than will fit on the 'blank' area, meaning all the page #s thereafter will all change...

But that's precisely what I want to avoid - ie the need to check and amend other (or every) page.

Once you've filled up the blank area above the manual page break, you'll have no option but to start a new page. You might be able to minimise the impact of that by deleting the manual page break so that the content previously starting on the next page moves up a page. At some point, though, you'll have to accept that you've run out of space to add content without substantial repagination.
I suggest you also read about the pitfalls of using revision pages at: I want to include the chapter number with the page number in the Header - how can I do this?

On reflection I'm going to carriage return 6 lines at the end of each page; backspacing each time a new line is occupied.
Assessing the frequencies over the several years these lists have been expanded, this should give me about 5 years of additional entries before a new start has to be made. An explanatory note on the first page should suffice for anyone consulting the hard copy. |

That really is poor practice. Inserting manual page breaks as I suggested - which it seems you haven't bothered trying - is a far more robust method of achieving your aim.

Other family members, knowing less than I do about Word, will be using and adding entries from time to time. A simple instruction on page 1 suffices.
There are several of these lists, ranging from 20 to 80 pages in length. Simplicity is essential. |

Forgot to add this. When a page has had used up the max page breaks with new entries, the next page's space can be used for a similar number of entries. In this event only 2 pages will need to be printed off and substituted for the existing pages, leaving the remainder untouched.

So, telling people to type additional content above the manual page break is simpler than telling them to type there content below the existing content, then delete any empty paragraphs that have flowed to the next page? I think not.
In the event that a page has been filled, but the one after it has not, the manual page break can be deleted. Surely that's not too hard to understand?
