This was poor advice. You want each level attached to a separate paragraph style.
How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in Ribbon Versions of Word by Shauna Kelly I suspect, but do not know, that you have more than one list in your document. Consider attaching a sample document file (not screenshot) with the problem. How to attach a screenshot or file in this forum.
