Default Where are the TOC switches?

Hi again. I'm working on a document stored in sharepoint and opened it on the desktop app. I would like the TOC to remove the page numbers in TOC level 3 but whenI toggled the code, I do not see any switch. I tried typing n "3-3" then did an update table but the page numbers of level 3 are still there.
I opened an old file with a TOC, the switches are visible.
Any idea?

Thank you.

Did you look at TOC Tips and Tricks by Suzanne Barnhill, MVP previously linked?

You may want to look at the companion page TOC Switches by Suzanne Barnhill, MVP.

Marcia
The switch needs a \ in front of the n so the full field code should look something like this
{TOC \o "1-3" \n "3-3" \h}

Thank you Charles and Andrew.
When I pressed Alt F9, the code looks like the attached image. There are no switches.

There should be backslashes in front of each switch letter so it should read
{TOC \o "1-4" \t "Style4,1,Fund,3" \h \z \n "3-3"}

You should use Shift-F9 instead of Alt-F9 to display only the selected field code. Then press F9 to rebuild the TOC and show the result.

Sorry about the bother. I do not honestly remember what I did, but the backslashes are now visible so Inwas able to add the \n “3-3”.
I was feeling nostalgic so I was using the underwood font in the TOC. I changed it to Times New Roman then went back again to Underwood. When I toggled the code, the backslashes are there..

Respectfully, I disagree, at least in general. With the TOC field Shift+F9 should work but with any nested fields you will not see the nested field structure with Shift+F9 but only the outer shell field.

I note your disagreement Charles and am happy to concede because of the nested field issue. I prefer to use Shift-F9 because I rarely need to nest fields and there are less keystrokes to modify the code and refresh the field since it only takes F9 to update and reveal the result.

Marcia, it sounds like you have this fixed now but the reason that Shift-F9 didn't show the TOC field code is that you only selected a line within the TOC and not the entire TOC before using that code. I always select the entire TOC before using Shift-F9. This is easy to do by dragging a selection from outside the TOC (either above or below) into the TOC. When your selection starts outside of the TOC, the entire TOC gets selected as you drag into it.

Good point. I use a lot of IF fields that rely on other fields, also calculated numbering fields. Usually, when I use the Alt+F9 to toggle field codes, the field shifts off the screen. I have to use the arrow keys to come back to the field.
