Whack-a-mole with continuous secton break
I have had and solved this problem before, but it has been a couple of years since it came up. Someone working in a document (Office 365, but it has happened in pre-subscription versions before) has insert continuous section breaks where none were needed -- not for anything legitimate, just to end a page. There are next-page section breaks in the document to separate sections with different headers/footers. I can delete one of the two continuous, but the second, while disappearing, then somehow turns the next-page one above into a continuous. I have tried isolating the continuous between next-page ones to no avail, though I recall that the solution was something like that, and I may have had to carry it out in Draft view. I just don't remember. Any ideas? |

What happens if you change all section breaks to Next Page before deleting the unwanted section breaks?
Another alternative when having problems with deleting a section break is (via Draft view) drag and drop the section break in front of the preceding section break and then delete it.

The thing to remember about section breaks is that they display of the type of section that follows the section break, while they store the section type (and all other properties) of the section preceding the break. The properties of the very last section is stored in the final paragraph mark of the document.
If you display the Page Setup dialog box for a section and click OK to confirm the settings, you should be able to use F4 to duplicate those settings for another section. However, in this particular case, simply changing the type of section, as Andrew suggested, might help. For "everything" on sections, have a look at Working with sections.

Thanks
Thanks to all. The macro may come in handy, Paul.
Meanwhile, I had rediscovered the page set-up Layout tab's section "Section start" field, which in this case solved the problem without further ado. |
