Default Expand Image to Both Columns

I'm trying to insert an Excel image into a two column page but only the left half of the image is displayed. It's on the left column (as it should be)but the right column does not display the right half of the Excel image. If I click on the image the bounding box is displayed properly on both columns but the right column has no image displayed.
What must I do to display the the whole image across both columns?

Thank you for your help.

In Word, columns are almost like separate pages. An image going past the column border disappears.

Why do you have two columns in Word? Would a two-column table suit your purposes?
If you insert your image behind or in front of text it will span the columns.

You could insert a section break before and after your image and set that to be a single column. Note that your columns will then wrap above the image.

Thumbs up

Charles:

Thanks for your response.
I'm working on a genealogy book which will be printed in landscape mode (11x8.5) with two columns per page but I have various Excel, .jpg and Coral Draw files which will (hopefully!) span both columns.

Your solution sounds fine (You could insert a section break before and after your image and set that to be a single column. Note that your columns will then wrap above the image) except Layout/Page Setup/Breaks/Continuous doesn't do anything, perhaps because the Excel image is at the top of the page and at the left border and there's no space to place the cursor to the left of the image. So, I used Layout Options with Text Wrapping and selected "Through". That displayed the whole image over two columns.
