Setup custom numbering and automate creation of bookmarks
Please see the attached word document.
I will be quite surprised if I receive any answer. Several times I have posted here regarding MS Office and not once have I ever received an answer. Whatever! Last edited by mswmacroman; 11-23-2021 at 08:29 AM. Reason: Needed to speak to lack of response. |

If you want an answer, you need to ask a question. And your question is?

Sorry, But I never received any notices, maybe notices meant to alert me of answers either never get to my email inbox, go to my junk mail or I am expecting an answer to come to my email and that is not how answers come.
Okay, my bad for not knowing how I should receive answers. How then is this supposed to happen? Also the attached word doc I sent in this last post is more explicit in detail of questions that are posed. |

I just checked my spam folder and nothing there.
Okay, my questions are as follows: In normal numbering, it would begin as a one-digit number, for example, 1 with the next being 2. How to set the numbering to be a 4 digit number with the first being 0001, the second number being 0002, etc.? In addition, I want the 4 digit number to include in front of the 4 digit number the letter d and at the end of each successive 4 digit number the symbol >. Second question: How to set up automated bookmarks upon having the aforementioned numbering system in play? In other words, when the next 4 digit number becomes part of the ongoing list then a bookmark is automatically generated with a bookmark name that matches the number. So for example when the number d0011> is generated during the normal course of numbering the next item then the bookmark is also auto-created with the bookmark name becoming d0011. This seems a bit far-fetched but thought I would ask anyway. This sure would save a considerable amount of time. |

This posted article is relevant to MS Word 2007 and 2010; I use Word 2013. So this begs the question, is this article relevant to Word 2013? I should mention, I do not want more than one level, so maybe a list style should use the multi-level style anyway, or at least that is what I gather from this article, if in fact this will work with Word 2013. How do I see previously posted questions answered? You say I had one in August, yet I cannot figure out how to see this answer. In addition, how do I view my previous posts?

The Multilevel List dialog box hasn't changed much since Word 2010, so Shauna Kelly's article is still relevant. You can pick the "0001, 0002, 0003" format for any level where you want it in your multilevel list.

Shauna passed away some time ago. Her site is being kept up by Word MVPs because its content is so valuable. Did you try it? |

Write the questions here. By all means attach a document to show what you are working on. Stefan's last post includes a screenshot of the New MultiLevel List dialog that should help. Again, read Shauna's page. There is no better reference on this method. I recommend bookmarking it in your browser. |
