Default insert picture file location

Hi.
Word 2010 32 bit on Windows 7 64 bit.
In word, when i insert picture, navigate to the folder i want and insert the picture i want, that works fine.
The problem is that when i then insert another picture the file location resets to the default location (pictures library) and i have to navigate through all the folders again to the folder i was just at.
This also happens if i right click on the newly inserted picture and select "change picture".
This problem has only just occurred and never used to happen. I am not sure if it is related to updates from MS or other software issues.
Everything else works fine.
Is there a setting that has changed?
Any thoughts
