Default "Other people are editing this document." How? I have never granted anyone else access to it.

I have a Word document that I keep in my OneDrive storage. When I open it, I get the message "Other people are editing this document", and get asked if I want changes to be made immediately. the thing is, I have only granted other people access to a tiny handful of the files in my OneDrive storage, and certainly not to this particular document, which is a personal journal. I haven't got the document open on any other device. So who else is editing the document?

I don't know how that happens but this might be a workaround: - Have you tried 'Save-as' to save the document to your hard drive instead of keeping it in OneDrive? It might remove the problem.

I would prefer to keep a "personal journal" on my hard drive anyway and only use OneDrive for files I need to share access with others.

Following this... same thing is happening to me. It just started recently. Every time I open a word document from OneDrive, I get a notification that someone else is editing the document. WHen I go to "Share" however, I only see myself.

You will get such a message if there is an orphaned lock file relating to the document in the same folder. Lock files can be present if the document was not closed correctly or Word crashed. See
