Default Can you use the Calculate Quick Access Command on Equations?

So I just discovered that Word has a built-in calculator which is pretty nifty; however, the problem is that it only works on plain-text formulas, and it just doesn't do anything if you try and use it on an equation in Word's equation editor. Is there anything that can be done to fix this, in the form of an add-on or something?
