Can't assign Alt+J to a macro
Hi all, I am racking my head and can't seem to figure out what the problem is with my macros...everything was working fine, then all of a sudden, when I go to change a macro or record a new one, I press Alt+J but as soon as i press those buttons together a "," is automatically inserted after the "+" sign so it ends up looking like ALT+,J and thereby making my macro of Alt+J unusable. I need this for work purposes and I can't seem to fix it. I've deleted Word and re-installed it, but no luck Can anyone please help ASAP, thank you! The Alt key activates the accelerators on the ribbon, which probably explains the difficulties you are seeing with the Alt+J shortcut. You could try Alt+Ctrl+J or something similar instead.

Assigning Keyboard Shortcuts in Microsoft Word 2007-2021 (365)
I have no problem in Word 10 or Word 365 assigning Alt+J. Because of the Alt+ tooltips to the ribbon, like Stefan, I avoid plain Alt+ shortcuts. If you are assigning shortcuts to multiple macros, see the section in the above-linked page about using prefixes. I suspect that you may have already assigned Alt+J as a prefix. If you had, you would be seeing "Alt+J," in the box for the shortcut. It is waiting for another keystroke. If you absolutely need this, check if you can assign it when you are running Word in safe mode. (This is a diagnostic step, not a way to assign the shortcut. Let us know the result.)
