So I'm writing a paper and need to wrap text around a number. So when I went to select it wrap text, it's grayed out. So I was like why don't I open a brand new document and went to select wrap text and it's already grayed out. What am I missing?

Wrapping is related to graphics. To wrap text around a number, put the number in a text box and wrap the text box.
Or you could put the number at the start of the paragraph and set it as a drop cap.
