Default Can custom toolbars be part of a template? (office 2013/2016)

I want a custom toolbar to be opened when a document based upon a template is opened.

I seem to remember (not entirely sure) that the "Organizer" used to have toolbars. Now it just has Styles and Macros. Organizer is Developer Ribbon/Document Template/Organizer

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, you can customise the Ribbon (the name of the custom toolbars nowdays). It isn't easy but it is rewarding. See Customize the Office Ribbon (It doesn't take rocket science) to get started.

It is also possible to save Quick Access Toolbar customizations with a particular document or template, if that helps.

Thanks for the responses.

Yes, ribbon not toolbar.

I should clarify - the ribbon icons will run macros.

Guessed I looked at that link. It does look like rocket science lol. It also seems to use a custom UI editor which is a non-starter as this problem is for Work and 3rd party apps are restricted.

QAT icons would fine too.

I agree that Ribbon creation does indeed look a lot like Rocket Science. You don't HAVE to use a Custom UI editor but it does make it a little bit easier. Once you know what you are doing, you won't need the 3rd party tool but it helps to get started.

The QAT edits are a far simpler and quicker way to give you buttons to run macros.

Modifying the QAT is much easier.
Modifying the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) in Microsoft Word

Modifying the Ribbon using XML can attach to a template. It is very rewarding when it works but is such a PITA in general. I use it in regularly in Global Templates, but not document templates. I regularly add QAT mods to document templates and even documents.

I had multiple custom toolbars on all sides of my Word screen in Word 97-2003 and still miss that flexibility.
