Default Import Word Flowchart Into Another Word Doc Issue

I created a one page flowchart in a frame in Word and want to import it into another Word file without it using the Tabs, etc. in the target file which messes up everything in the Flowchart. I want to use the objects in the flowchart to set hyperlinks to sections of the target document. So I will not only import it but want to be able to edit it as well. Both are Office Professional 2016.

Is there a solution to this or is it not possible? I spent a fair amount of time creating the flowchart so don't want to start over if possible. I also have Visio but understand there are issues using that as well.

Thanks!

The change when pasting to another document is most likely due to different style (or theme) definitions in the two documents. Can you confirm whether both docs use the same template styles?

Yes they are definitely different except for margins. I am just trying to create a flowchart that I will have hyperlinks to other parts of the target document. It will end up primarily as a PDF. I know whatever the design of the target document is will try to over write the original formatting of the source flowchart so I'm trying to find out how to work around that. Maybe it's not possible, I don't know. I also have Visio but not sure that would help either.

Check the style used in each box. It is most likely "Normal". If you make the style settings in both docs the same for this style then it won't change when you paste between those docs.

If you don't want the style definition for Normal to be the same: Create a new custom style (based on No Style) where the good flowchart is. Apply this style to all the text in the boxes. Then copy the chart to the other document. Since that style doesn't yet exist in the target document, it will be created with the same settings as the source doc.

Also, I assume you put your shapes inside a 'Drawing Canvas' rather than a 'Frame'.

The hyperlinks may need to be reset after pasting into the target document - it is not clear whether they should be seeking a bookmark with the same name in the target document or the original document source.

I believe that doing the graphic in Visio is not going to solve your problem as you still have to get the hyperlinks going to the right place and I'm not sure how Visio could output the hotspots for you unless you are importing html.

Let me clarify.

No, the Flowchart I created in a separate Word file does NOT have hyperlinks, I was going to add them once I got the flowchart into the target document which has a large number of Chapters, Headings, etc. I want to link to.

If I paste as an image it works fine but then I can't select each object in the flowchart to create my hyperlinks. Yes, the flowchart was created in a Drawing Canvas in order for the Flowchart dynamic lines to work from object to object.

I think I've got it. I created a new Style item in my source flowchart page called "Flowchart". It had all the correct settings so the chart appeared as I designed it.

I then simply copied & pasted over into the target document and it pasted correctly and I can select individual objects within the flowchart so I can add my hyperlinks as desired. Now when I save as a PDF file hopefully it all works as I hope.

Thank you for input, the Style naming I think is what allowed it to be copied, instead of the Default "Normal".
