Hi all,




I am writing a longish document in word at the moment and have come across an issue that I cannot solve on my end. Hope you have a good idea on what to do.


So I am having a lot of formulas and in order not lose sight of what is happening, I have been numbering them with AutoNumLgl / Field Codes: AUTONUMLGL \e.
I have been referencing some formulas in my written text, hence I have bookmarked certain AutoNum fields to reference them in the text.
At fist this has been working great, but unfortunately something has been broken and for all cross-references I insert in my written I see a "1" instead of the actual number.


Has anybody come across a similar issue before or do you have an idea how to fix this?

This would be a lot simpler if you, instead, used the Caption function under the References tab. It is easy to add cross-references to them. You can also easily create a Table of Figures or Equations.

Following Charles' recommendation would mean starting again so you might not want to do that, however if every one of your xrefs is pointing at the wrong thing you will have to do that anyway. A caption-based numbering solution would be more typical and it depends on how you want the Equations to look as to whether that suits you better (eg. do you want the caption # on the same line as the equation or below/above)

In order to work out what is going wrong, you need to reveal field codes on the xref and see what bookmark it is pointing at. You then go to the location of that bookmark to see what it includes.

You can create a caption on the same line as an equation although this requires extra steps.

I have indeed revealed the field codes of the references and they seem to be working properly. However, they all display a "1" instead of the correct numbering.
Seems like there is a larger problem in place that is not easily solved.


I will look into the solution using captions instead.
Better to start from scratch and do it right than try and fix a subpar setup.
