I am trying to use the Master/Sub doc feature of Word. Our sub documents will be on remote servers to the masters doc. I want to know is it possible to reference remote subdocs and read and write to them from the master doc ?

I have tested it out on my local machine with a webdav server running, but when ever I save my master doc with changes to the subdocs referenced via theirr localhost urls it crashes.

Please make backups of all your files, preferably off-line. Then review Master Documents "Feature" in Microsoft Word and the files linked from there. You are risking your work.

Adding to my previous response, I would NEVER write to subdocuments from within a Master Document. Making the documents remote adds to problems as would collaborating on editing with others.
