Default docx not recognised in office 2016 now

Hi. Having had to re-install windows and office 2016, I can't get docx recognised excel works fine. Each time try to open a dotx, I am prompted with what do you want to use to open this file . Also word docs have a default icon against the file name instead of the word icon. No problems with the excel files. If I select word to open I get it opened in word pad.

Some of them I get wordpad can't open this document

Recomended = Word

Try:
- right-click your .docx file
- choose 'Open with'
- click 'Use another application'
- choose 'Word' if you find its icon elsewise browse to your MS Office folder and select 'WinWord.exe'
- check 'Always use this application'
- conferm with 'OK'
