How do I open a favourite template easily?
I have created a template in Word which I intend to use frequently. Is there a way to have this instantly available like the various templates that ship with Word, instead of having to click the browse button and navigate all the way to the template folder (if I could only remember where that folder was)? |

Lots of ways. See File New Variations in the Versions of Word.
Jargon alert: You want to create a document based on the template, not open it. More complex methods: |

A very basic way to have easy, quick access to a Template, is to drag a Template from your Templates folder into an empty space on the Taskbar or onto the Word icon in the Taskbar.
If you don’t have the Word icon in the Taskbar, placing the Template in an empty area the Taskbar creates an icon to use in future. You simply then right click the Word icon and click the required Template from the Pinned section at the top. A new document is created based on the Template. My example below already has the Word icon in the Taskbar. Downside of the 'Pinned' Documents/Templates is they can disappear at times if 'cleaning' programs are used or 'Group Policy' settings are changed to remove them etc. |

Does this open the template or create a new document?

That is interesting Moonshine. I thought (like Charles) that it would open the template but it creates a new document like you would want it to do. Nice!

Oops.
One other simple method is to record a macro creating a new document from the template and put a button on the QAT to the macro. |

The way I do it is to create my template in the "Documents\Custom Office Templates" folder and then put a shortcut on the desktop that points to it.
In my case I wanted to see a non-white paper colour because white is too glaring so I named my template "Palegreen.dotm". All I have to do then is double-click on the shortcut. Simple. |
