How to remove gap between text and footnotes on Mac?

Default How to remove gap between text and footnotes on Mac?

There's a large gap between the text and the footnotes on my document, I can't highlight the gap and when I click 'show formatting marks' there is nothing in the space. I am using Microsoft Word 2016 for Mac. Please help!
