Is there a way to eliminate all the date groupings, so that the files in Open, Save As, etc. display in one continuous list (presumably by date last modified in descending order)?

Thank you.

Those groupings are showing recent files.
Use F12 key for SaveAs.
Change the option so that it does not show backstage for open and save.

Thank you Charles. I am aware of F12 (Save As) and ctrl-F12 (Open). What I overlooked is this: if I simply select "File", I get the list I seek, as I wish it to be. But if I THEN click Open or Save As, I get all the timing stuff that I don't want. So for me, whenever I wish to open a file on which I've already worked, I simply choose File, not File > Open.

Again, thank you. Your reply prompted me to look again, to see differently. I appreciate that.
