Default Customizing document content based on choices made

Hi folks,

One of my users writes:

I’m working on developing a template for informed consent forms. Basically the studies can be in children or adults and the forms signed by the patients, parents, or caregivers. Do you know if there is a way to create form where if a field is filled out or chosen, all subsequent language is applied to the appropriate person?

For example, if it’s a parental consent, you choose that somewhere at the beginning, and then all language in the form is update to “your child”.
I suggested just writing 3 different templates but they're trying to avoid doing so.

I've done this before in a different setting but I had to automate it using VBA forms. That's an option here but I'd prefer to give them something with less development & maintenance.

Can anyone give me ideas on ways to implement this?

TIA,

Beej
