i am sorry, your question confuses me.
"Word search box?"
Find box?
The search box in the title bar is essentially a help feature.
In file (Open/Save) dialog boxes, the box is to look for particular file names.

I assume you are typing the name of the document in the search box. Correct?

Is this Word 2016?
Word online?
Look under File>Account>About Word for version.

What do you see if you press Ctrl+F12?

I am using Word 365 as well. (I picked up Word 2016 for you from your profile in the forum.)

By version, I mean the specific update release number.
File > Account

It should show near About Word.
