Default Bibliography cutting off one of author's initials in APA

One of my references is to J. J. C. Smart. In the source manager, his name is entered as "Smart, J. J. C.". However, in the bibliography, his name just shows as "Smart, J. J.", both for the APA 6th Edition that Word has by default, and also for a custom APA 7th Edition I have added. However, it shows correctly as "Smart, J. J. C." for Chicago and MLA. Why is this happening? I skimmed the APA Publication Manual and it doesn't seem to be a convention. Is there any way to fix this?

I'm sure there is a way to fix it but it isn't going to be easy.

Bibliography styles are controlled by XML 'style' files (.xsl) buried in your machine. You can add more styles by copying files to the same location. If you dug through the APA file and compared it with the Chicago file you should be able to work out how to avoid the truncation of author initials. I would recommend you duplicate the APA file and customise it with what you learn from the Chicago or MLA file.

On my machine the relevant files are in this folder
%appdata%\Microsoft\Bibliography\Style

Some useful links that give you an idea of what you are in for are:

Word's citation tools don't appear to conform to any of the established referencing standards MS claims to support. Chicago has two formats and Word conforms to neither. You're better off using a third-party product such as EndNote, Mendeley, Zotero, etc.
