Default Cannot open a document

When I start Office 365 the usual page appears allowing me to select Word, Excel etc.

When I select Word I again get the usual page showing me the New Document Box and a list of the Recently Accessed Documents.

However, clicking on the New Document Box or on any of the recently accessed documents produces no result.

The only way I have found to use Office is to find (say) a docx file, open it, delete all the content of the file, insert the new content and then uses Save As with the new name.

Any ideas?

Office 365? Your profile shows Office 2010. Please change.

Browser version using OneDrive?
Are you using the Computer Application?

What happens if you pick Word under the Start Menu?

What happens if you open an existing document and use File > Open?
If with a document open, you then press Ctrl+N?

I tried to change my Office version to 365 but that option is not available to me so I have chosen Office 2019!!!

I am using Google Chrome 89.0.4389.82 (64 bit) Official Version.

I am using Office 365 installed on my computer.

Opening Office from the Taskbar or by using the App List brought up by the Windows Key produces the same effect.

I can open a Word file by going to File Explorer and then double clicking on it. If I then press Ctrl + N a new document is opened.

I have used Command sfc to check for Windows file corruption and I am assured that all is correct.

Windows 10 is fully up-to-date. This problem (coincidently???) arose just after a major update.

I have come across a new development.

I was, once again, trying to get an new Word document to open by clicking on the New Document Box near the top left hand corner of the screen. I did this multiple times and suddenly a new Word document appeared.

After playing with this new document I closed the document by clicking on the cross in the top right hand corner of the screen. I was presented with another new document, which I closed as described before. I had to repeat this many times before all the documents were closed.

So clicking on the New Document Box does open a new document by for some reason this is not being displayed by the computer!!!

After I close the first Office window for Word (the one giving the option to open a new document) I now find that blank Word documents have been opened displaying a box telling me that.....

We couldn't find https://d.doc.live.net/xxxxxxxxxxxxx...ocument21.docx

I have no idea what this means.

Where is https://d.doc.live.net/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx located?

I have checked Onedrive and Document21.docx exists in there!

"d.doc.live.net" refers to a OneDrive server.

The message has been reported a lot lately when Office files are created via the Office app. Instead of using the Office app to create new files, start the individual Office application directly.
