F4 key randomly malfunctions

Hi, my F4 key seems to randomly malfunction. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. I've tried resetting my keyboard customizations, even though I've never changed them, but it doesn't help. I don't think it's my keyboard, because I've tried switching keyboards and it still doesn't work right. Also, F4 works fine in Excel and PowerPoint, so I really don't know what the problem could be.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? Thanks in advance for any information.

Hi, thanks for your response. I just tried safe mode and F4 seems to work fine. Does this mean that there's an add in or something that might be causing the problem?

The fact that Safe mode works around the issue means that you should troubleshoot add-ins, yes. See How to troubleshoot problems that occur when you start or use Word - Office | Microsoft Docs.

Hi, thanks for your response. The problem I'm having is on a work computer so I won't be able to try anything until at least Monday, but I will definitely check the link you provided.

I've been experimenting more with F4 and now it's malfunctioning even in safe mode. Does that mean that there's something wrong with Word itself instead of an add in or something interfering with it? Is this a case where it should be repaired?
