I can't permanently set the color for Track Changes
Both with earlier versions of MS Word and more recently 2019, I didn't have to think about track changes. It marked everything in red and whatever I typed was in red. I didn't have to do anything to get the red color. Now I am in Word 2019 on Windows 10. I had to re-install it recently because after Windows did an update, the boot logger was dead. Now, I can set the color but it is only good for that one document. I can also set text color on the home tab, but surely that shouldn't be necessary. How can I make track always use a color other than black? I never knew how to do this because it was never necessary. Thanks.

In Word go to Review tab then look at 'Tracking'. I suspect that you have the 'Simple Markup' or 'No Markup' selected. Choose 'All Markup' instead.
To enable tracking right-click on taskbar and ensure 'Track changes' is ticked. |

Permanently setting Track Changes Color
Thanks. Yes, that is what I needed. I would also like to use a different default color than red. My experiments there failed but at least it is doing red.

You can choose colors in the Advanced Track Changes Options dialog box. (In Word 2007, the dialog box is simply called Track Changes Options.) Note, however, that those settings are specific to your installation. They do not go with the document.

Permanently setting Track Changes Color
Thanks, all, for the help. It was a setting on the track changes options that did the trick. I still wish I could find a way to change the color that will show up after I have uploaded the document and the student has downloaded it.
I teach as an online adjunct for master's-level students. I download their papers form Canvas and use Track Changes to make comments at the end of the paper.I would prefer to use some color besides red because red implies that the student did something wrong, even if I am offering positive feedback. Based on one of the responses I received, however, I can't do that. Even if I change it to green, it won't show up as green once the student downloads my commented version from Canvas. Sigh. |
