I need to know what this paragraph mark is called so I can research how to get rid of it. |

It is a non-printing formatting mark indicating an end-of-cell in a table. You cannot get rid of it unless you delete the cell itself.

Agree with Robert2. If you do not want to see formatting marks then click on the Show/Hide icon to Hide it. Hide is the default.

It also could be ascii code 164 (Alt+0164) used as a currency symbol.

Except that it's described as a paragraph mark...

Every table cell has at least one paragraph and the last paragraph in every table cell is terminated by an ASCII 13 & 07 character pair represented as ¤ (Other paragraphs are terminated by an ASCII 13 & 10 character pair represented as ¶).

I always (mistakenly) believed that in Tables ¤ was to be considered a mere placeholder. Thank you @macropod

Thank you, I did not realize it was a table cell, now that I know that I can delete it, by deleting the cell
