"Find and Replace" tool leaves out many of the occurrences of what I put in the "find" window
If I put a comma (","), or a quote mark (") or single quote mark (') in the find window and set the find parameters to Nirmal font, 13 size, the tool only finds around 80% of the occurrences in my document, leaving me to search out the other 20% by hand. Is there a reason for this, and is there a way to fix it so that it will find the other 20%? One may think that those 20% which it doesn't catch are another variety of comma, or another variety of quote mark. But even if I copy that very comma or that very quote mark with the tool didn't catch, and paste it into the search window, it still doesn't find it. Behaves as though it isn't even there. Would be very grateful for a solution to this-- would save me a lot of time from not having to search them out by hand! |

Without actually seeing the problem document, it can be difficult for anyone to diagnose the issue. Can you attach a document to a post with some representative data (delete anything sensitive)? You do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

Here is an example. I have attached a file which contains only single quote marks, plus one word in single quote marks. The row of single quotes is in Nirmal font, and the single quote mark preceding the word is in Times New Roman; the single quote mark following the word is in Mangal font.
If you do ctrl-H for find and replace, and put a single quote mark in the find window, and for the replace put a single quote mark, this time with font Times New Roman, size 14. When you give the order for find and replace, MS Word will replace all the single quote marks in the row as requested, changing them to Times New Roman font size 14. But, although it will 'find' the Mangal font quote mark following the word, yet it will not change the font to Times New Roman; it will remain as Mangal font. Is there a solution? |

I'm not exactly sure what is going on with that final single quote mark but it appears to have something to do with 'Complex Script'.
This might be necessary for your use of font characters in your language but it obviously doesn't play well with the processing you are trying to achieve.

Word does Find all the single quotes, but for some reason doesn't change all of them, even though it claims to. Even more curious, if you tell Word to Find single quotes in the Mangal font, it says there are none. I'd say it's a bug in Word that should be reported via Welcome to Word's Suggestion Box!

Ok, because here I just gave you a sample using the single quote. But the same happens with double quotes, exclamation points, question marks, semicolons, and commas. We like the Nirmal font for the letters, but not for the punctuation. So after preparing documents, we change the punctuation to Times New Roman. But the find and replace only changes half the occurrences for any of these, which leaves me to find and change the rest by hand. A big job!
And as you noted, it is even worse with Mangal. With Nirmal font, at least the find tool finds them although it only replaces half. But with Mangal, the find tool doesn't even find them. |

We could never find a Hindi font in which we like the appearance of the punctuation. Is there a better way to use the letters of one font, and the punctuation of another?

So I guess it could be years, or they may never fix the bug that Word cannot execute a "find and replace" for punctuation (commas, semicolons, quote marks etc) of a certain font type and size and change it to another? And if they ever do, will they let me know?
I did write up a report about it here: Word 2019 cannot search punctuation in Nirmal or Mangal fonts and convert to Times New Roman – Welcome to Word's Suggestion Box! |

They are highly unlikely to notify you that they have fixed this.
