Good descriptive file names with dates are your friend. When I add a date I do it in the format YYYY-MM-DD. Naming Files - A System is the Key
You could use Graham Mayor's boiler app to compile your files but I don't know that this is a particularly good idea. Boiler - Insert a selection of documents by Graham Mayor, MVP If you can add RAM to your computer that will likely help with searches.
