I need an application to file and access files.

I hope that my title offers an accurate description of what I am looking for which I will now elaborate on.

I have at least many hundreds of Folders and loose files in my hard drive and that means that it takes far too long to find a particular file. I think that If I copied every file I have onto one document the "Find" mechanism might work but it would be an enormous file.
Is there any software that could offer me help with what I have mentioned?
