Adding LOTS of bookmarks to document
I have a large document with lots of repetitive data that could be created from an Access database with bookmarks.
The problem is, I have hundreds of data items that could be included. I already have suitable names in an access database, can I insert these into a Word document in a bulk fashion? The main goal is to be able to add several hundred bookmarks without having to do it one at a time in the Word dialog box. |

I found this:
How can I quickly add a lot of bookmarks? - Microsoft Community Not exactly what I am looking for, but may work. |

What is your end-game? What is the purpose of the bookmarks?
Some other technique may have more benefit to you. I am contemplating mapped content controls. Are you creating a new document using code? Working with an existing template to create a new document? Using an existing document? |

Yes you can insert bookmarks in bulk from an external source like Access. There isn't an existing process though and VBA code will have to be developed to deal with your unique inputs.
The key command requires a valid bookmark name and a 'range' in the document where the bookmark needs to be inserted.

I suspect what the OP is after requires a mailmerge... No bookmarks required.

A mail merge would be great, but I thought the limit was 256 merge fields.

No, but the real question is whether each record requires more than 256 fields. In a mailmerge, you create a document with all that is needed to process a single name/address, with mergefields pointing to the relevant data fields. Completing the merge will output a document containing replicas of that letter personalised for each name/address. See: Use mail merge to send Access data to Word - Access
