Default Phantom blank page printing between sections

On occasion, I am working on other people's documents and there's a blank page that shows up between sections. Usually I can just look at the formatting and figure it out. But I've got one that doesn't show a blank page in print preview, doesn't show it in the Navigation Pane page view, but prints, or converts to PDF as a completely blank page. And in looking at Word's own page numbering on the bottom Status Bar, it goes from page 11 to page 13.

It's between two sections, and the Section Break-Next Page appears to be properly used. I don't see any funky characters on either page. The margins and other basic details are the same on the adjoining pages. I've tried "show hidden text", nothing new shows up.

Of course, I can manually delete that blank page from the Acrobat document, but I sure wish I could explain where that is coming from.

I'm using Word 365, though the document was originally created in an older version of Word. But that's pretty typical for our stuff and normally there are no issues like this. Any ideas on how to fix?

If the page is truly blank (no header or footer) then it is likely that the section break is either an odd page or even page section break.

If there is headers/footers then there may be a page break + section break or a pagination setting that is causing the issue. It is hard to diagnose without seeing the file but I normally change to Draft view and show hidden formatting in order to work out issues like this.

Good thought! Thanks! But it wasn't an odd/even page break, and I had pulled up in draft view and didn't see anything. So I saved a copy and started stripping out other parts of the document. Turns out, it doesn't seem to be associated with the page break between page 11 and 13, but the one at the bottom of 13 into a new section. When I removed everything below that and then backed out the section break, the page was displaying page 12. So, I'm trying replacing that break, and so far no luck. I may try deleting the rest of that document and rebuilding it, as there must be something in there that is causing it.

Do you have floating objects or footnotes in the document? They could be forcing odd pagination.
