Default Removing comma from citation and adding brackets around the year in Bibliography

Does anyone know how to remove commas from citations and also add brackets around the year in Bibliography in Microsoft Word?

I am using a variation of the Harvard system for college work which MS Word does not have. At present, the only way is to convert it to static text and use the replace tool but that affects the whole document plus I have tons of citations and references.

I have tried editing the "HarvardAnglia2008OfficeOnline.xsl" in "\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Bibliography\Style " folder but searched for where the comma is or where the year is for Bibliography and can not find them in the xsl file.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Best Regards

I cannot stress enough the use of a specialized reference/citation tool if you are currently doing undergrad/grad work. While I like Word's bibliographic tool, as a undergrad or grad student, you really need a tool that will retain your sources throughout your college years, may be shareable within your study groups, and may actually help organize or annotate source material. Run to your college librarian and find out what tools your college recommends or supports.

If they don't recommend a particular tool, there are many to choose from. Zotero is an open source software and has many variations of the Harvard styles. It has a plug-in for Microsoft Word.

Word provides all of that for anyone who takes time to learn how to use the tools it provides. I presently have over 900 sources stored in Word's bibliography file and have posted tools (macros) for making bibliography backups, restorations & transfers between computers.

The real issue with Word is that it doesn't seem to comply with any of the referencing standards it purports to support - a situation that has been going on ever since Word 2007 was released. Clearly, no-one with a say in the matter at Microsoft cares enough about the issue to do anything about it.
