Default Word 2016 to 2019 Table of Content Problem

Dear Gurus of Word,

I have a speacial TOC format that I generated as STOC Heading levels defined, and with this TOC formatting I have a working Word document generating the TOC perfectly in one desktop with Windows 8 & Office 2016.

When the same document is moved to a new laptop with Windows 10 & Office 2019, the TOC when updated, gives the "No Table of Content Entries" warning and does not generate the TOC.

To solve this problem, when the Table of Contents button on the ribbon, the Custom Table of Content is selected, then I can generate the Table of Contents, but then the formats are not the same.

Wonder if any chance that I can understand and solve this problem with your expert advice ? Thanks for your time and advice, and stay safe from Covid.

Not without sharing the document. How to attach a screenshot or file in this forum.

The following may or may not help you in figuring this out on your own:

The TOC functionality hasn't changed from 2016 to 2019 so what you are reporting doesn't sound like normal behaviour. I can imagine it might be possible to recreate the issue if your document is set to update styles automatically but this is a very long shot and would need a lot of non-standard things to be in place.

What format was the file saved in when it was transferred to the Office 2019 machine?

You may need to upload a copy of the file so we can see what you have in it.
