Unlocking WORD Read Only Files
Hi. Please can anyone Help? For years I have saved WORD filed (letters etc) and later reopened them, added minor details, and saved them as a different file. Recently any file I save cannot be amended when reopened. They show as "read only". How can I be sure that future files will be editable when reopened. Thank you. |

You should be using templates, not files. When you double-click on a template, it opens a new document, with the content from the template, which is then saved. Re-using documents is asking for trouble. Templates in Microsoft Word

Try going to File > Info > Protect Document. In that dropdown menu, click on the button that says "always open read-only".
