When I am trying to access one of my folders and trying to save a document in one of my folders, I get the error message "You don't currently have permission to access this folder". These are my folders that I have created. Why does it do this and how to I get access to my own folder?

I posted this in 2020 and did not get an answer. I still have the problem. Can someone please let me know how to get rid of this problem and access my folders and files?

Could depend on the root folder of your own folder, where did you create your folder. Also, it could be your anti-malware, maybe it's a little too nosey.
If there are other problem I usually use this tool LINK added to my context menu to regain ownership of defective folder; or do it manually like this LINK.

As Rollis13 said - What is the path of the folder? If it is in 'My Documents' then you should be able to access it and save to it.
Another thing to try is to 'Take Ownership' of the folder. See Just a moment...

I still get this error message when trying to open my own files that I created.

How do I fix this once and for all?

The path is:

E:\Microsoft Office\WINWORD\CRASH\w&cms\June 13

It is not "My Documents"

I tried using the tutorial "How to Add Take Ownership to Context Menu in Windows 10, but when I right click on the folder, it does not give me the "Take Ownership" option.

I need a simpler way to get access to my folders.

This forum is for Word related queries but having said that which folder are the files in?

If it is not a Windows system or Programs folder then maybe look at "Taking Ownership" of the folder?

See Just a moment...

Maybe you didn't exactly do what was explained in the links I indicated (with .reg file or manually). Don't you think that out there there are maybe hundreds of persons happy with "Take Ownership" (like I am).
I can't help you with your PC, I can only show you what can be done.

The files I am trying to open are in a Word folder.

The Take Ownership tutorial that was suggested doesn't work. When I right click on the folder, I do not get the "Take Ownership" option.

E:\ drive implies it is a network drive. Your IT admins may have changed control of who is allowed to edit files in that folder.

If you right click on the folder and choose Properties and look at the Security tab, who has access rights to it?

Agree with Guessed. The path E:\Microsoft Office\WINWORD\CRASH\w&cms\June 13 looks protected to me and I would never try to take ownership of it.

When I right click on the folder, I get "You must have read permissions to view the properties of this object." I don't even get to see who has permission to view the folder.

I get this "You don't currently have permission to access this folder" on a lot of my files and folders that I created. Isn't there a way to get permission for all my folders so I don't keep having this problem?

You write "I get this "You don't currently have permission to access this folder" on a lot of my files and folders that I created."
This is different to saying "E:\Microsoft Office\WINWORD\CRASH\w&cms\June 13"

Sounds as if you are stringing us along by adding extra breadcrumbs along the way for us to reply to.

I'll unsuscribe from this thread. It's been going on since April 2020 I think.

It is a problem with a lot of my Word files. Someone asked what folder it was, and I just mentioned one of them. It happens with a lot of them. Is there a way for me to get permission for all my Word files?
