Question question for thinking

Hi, I need to create a table of contents in word, but my table is kind of specific. The thing is my table has to end with some letters (words) not page numbers, it doesn't matter on which page is my heading but it is important that I have a name of my project instead of page number. I tried almost everything, i don't want to do it manually and I want to avoid creating a table because i need to have an option to update it, many items will be displayed and their names are going to be change several times, I am sure that this is possible but I don't know how

please help

You can build a TOC in different ways and suppress the page numbers so there may be a solution. Can you post a sample document that shows what you want to achieve and some sample headings so we can see what styles you are using?

About the only way of achieving what you describe would be to include the letters in the Headings themselves, with a tab between them and the rest of each heading. For example:
My Project Heading → XYZ
where the → is a tab character. You might employ aright-aligned tab-stop in the heading and/or TOC to achieve the desired alignment.

If you follow Paul's method, you could even set up your heading styles so that the tabbed material you want in your TOC would be tabbed past the edge of the page. (This is if you do not want this to show up in the body of your document but only in the TOC.)

Another alternative would be a TC field, perhaps with a StyleRef field to your headings.
