Default Calculating absolute value in word?

I have a word datasheet that we use at work and I am wondering if I can get it to calculate the value of two cells into an absolute value? the cells are:

Reference Machine Deviation

I would like to have it give me the absolute value between the reference and machine in the deviation cell. Is there a way to do this?

You can use the ABS function or do it the long way with an IF field.

Note, the field delimiter braces { } must be inserted by Word, you cannot type them.

This is much easier in Excel.
In word, cell references are absolute.
First row is 1, first column is a, so top left cell is a1, next column, same row, is b1.

Alternatively, you could add named bookmarks to your sources and refer to those rather than cell references.

To see how to do a wide range of calculations in Word, check out my Microsoft Word Field Maths Tutorial, in the 'Sticky' thread at the top of this forum:
https://www.msofficeforums.com/word/...-tutorial.html
The tutorial includes examples for doing relative cell addressing. There's even a macro in the tutorial for correctly identifying cell addresses.
