Default Excel text to word as paragraphs, not table.

I have data consisting of thousands of rows all in a single excel column.

I need to move this data into Word but not as a Word table. Just as text.

Each excel row should appear in Word as a separate paragraph.

Each excel row contains its first word or two formatted as bold followed by a period. After that period, all the text in that row is formatted as not bold. This formatting needs to be retained during the transfer.

Can this be done? How?

Thanks.

I would do the normal copy and paste so you do get it as a Word table with the formatting intact. Then select the table and choose Convert to Text on the Table Tools > Layout ribbon tab.

Thank you. That's simpler than I thought.
I'll try it.

Do you think this will preserve the bold/not bold formatting?

Thank you!

You may lose the formatting within cells if your default Paste is set to "Keep Text Only". To keep the formatting, right-click and choose Paste Options > Keep source formatting.

You can change the default (i.e. what happens when you use Ctrl-v) to one of the several other paste options by using the Word Options > Advanced dialog; "Cut, copy, and paste" section.

Tried it. Worked perfectly.
(I did not know that a table could be coverted to text....)

Thank you.

Question:
In my Word 2002 text can only be put into 4 columns. Is it possible to:
1. Have 5 or more columns per page?
2. Modify the default space width between the columns?

Thank you.

I have Word 2007 installed too if that makes a difference. I just use Word 2002 because I prefer its menu structure.

I'm using current versions of Word and I can add more than 5 columns to a section layout. I don't recall if Word 2002 even exists in Windows (I thought it jumped from 2000 to 2003), nor whether it is limited to 5 columns maximum.

I suspect it is more likely that the column count is limited by the size of the spaces between columns. You should be able to reduce those column gaps in the same column settings dialog.
