Opened up a document to add a new topic and ran into a never before occurring issue.

I pressed return on the keyboard for step 3 in the outline and it did not format/enter the number 3. Instead, after I start typing the 3 is then entered (also notice the cursor location). Before, the [3.] would always enter itself. Any process to correct things back to what I'm used to?

Sometimes, typing immediately above a section break will cause issues in Word. Could that be happening in this case? Display nonprinting marks (for example by pressing the ¶ icon on the Home tab) and have a look.
