Did you read the tutorial's files? I suspect not. I gave you that link for a reason. I rarely use these fields and have forgotten much of what I once knew about ASK and FILL-IN fields, the tutorial has the sum of my knowledge.

Quote:
In this template (and documents based on the template), the ASK fields are not activated by opening the template or by creating a new document, they have to be activated either by the macro or manually. To activate them manually, select the next couple of sets of ASK fields (below) and cross-references and press your F9 key.

The most obvious thing you are doing wrong is not listening to good advice about using Content Controls. We only have a couple of experts on this forum who bother with Ask and Fillin fields so you don't have that many people who can help you.

If you want focused help, you should post a sample template that demonstrates your problem and what you've done so far.

Speaking for myself, I'm not interested in building something from scratch, using functionality superceded over 13 years ago, just to get to a point where I can experiment and solve a problem that is only applicable to my assumptions of YOUR document setup.

Both ASK and Fill-In fields were originally designed to be used in mail merge operations. They are triggered in a mail merge automatically.
