Question Numbered Bullets with a Range?

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to achieve a "range" in a numbered bullet list... as an example, instead of this...

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

I would like to achieve this;

1.
2. - 4.
5.

The reason being, I have a number diagram and several of the items related to the same thing, which I don't want to repeat in words etc. The number need to remain on the diagram as they are discussed individually also.

I know I can achieve this using tables, but I was wondering if there was a "clever" way to do this with the normal bullet tools?

Any help would be appreciated.

There is a point where the value of automating something exceeds the value of just doing it the manual way. Your example is waayyyy beyond that point.

Just type the numbers manually and move on. There is no clever way that provides any benefits beyond manual typing of the numbers.

I could (just about) imagine a case* where it would be helpful to have an automated link between a sequential run of numbers and a range, but I wouldn't use an ordered list for the range: bookmarks would do the trick, but I've not found Word's bookmarks quite as helpful as I'm used to.
Anyway, "hard cases make bad laws" and I can also imagine losing a lot more time trying to set up the automatic range reference than I could ever gain by having it.

* perhaps, "repeat steps n to m" in a complex and evolving procedure where someone might decide to throw in new steps?

SEQ fields might be a possibility. You'd either manually restart the field following the dash in your example, or you'd hide specific SEQ fields.

Of course, as Guessed said, this can easily end up being something that will be more difficult than typing numbers manually.
