Pagination when changing from 2 to 1 column
I'm I a document and whenever I change back to one column from two columns the page number goes back to 2. Every time in this document. I have another document formatted the same and there is no problem with the pagination.

Go to the page where the numbering changes and click Insert > Page Number > Format Page Numbers. In the dialog box, select "Continue from previous section."
If that fails, check which type of section break terminates the two-column section. If it is an Even Page section break, go to the section following the break and change the "Section start" to "Next page" in the Page Setup dialog box. To display the Page Setup dialog box, you can double-click the vertical ruler.

Go to any page that starts over as page 2.
Under page numbers select format page numbers. Tell Word to continue the numbering from the previous section. This happens because you (1) at some point told Word to restart numbering, and (2) added the Columns. When you change columns, it creates one or two section breaks. At each of these, the numbering then restarts (taking a cue from you previous restart). |
