Default Track changes saved to pdf with only red vertical lines saved

Hi guys,

New user here. I am in charge of manuals for a flight school, and for the purpose of recognising where changes have been made, it is nice for the students to be able quickly spot changes made from previous manuals.

I use “track changes” in simple markup, and in Word this works well, as only the red vertical track change line appears. However, when this document is saved to pdf, the comment section either appears (if “best for printout” is chosen), or there is no red lines at all (if “best for digital version”) is chosen.

Would it be possible to save a Word document to pdf with only the red track changes vertical line?

Best,

Peter

How would you want to show deletions?

Hi Andrew,

Good question. I have a Manual Changes document as well, where deletions will be described.

Any idea regarding the red vertical track changes lines for pdf-conversions (without a full comments section)?

In a copy, accept all changes except the deletions. Change display to only show the lines, not the text deleted. Then save as pdf.

The only revision tracking sidebars I know about are always black in colour. Showing those sidebars in the PDF should be easy enough if you fiddle with the Revision Tracking display/print options.

If you need these sidebars to be red then you will probably need to find another way of doing that. Perhaps add a frame to set up a border on paragraphs.
Code:
Sub FrameIt()
  Dim aFrame As Frame
  Set aFrame = ActiveDocument.Frames.Add(Selection.Range)
  With aFrame
    .TextWrap = False
    .Borders(wdBorderRight).LineStyle = wdLineStyleNone
    .Borders(wdBorderTop).LineStyle = wdLineStyleNone
    .Borders(wdBorderBottom).LineStyle = wdLineStyleNone
    .Borders(wdBorderLeft).LineStyle = wdLineStyleSingle
    .Borders(wdBorderLeft).LineWidth = wdLineWidth450pt
    .Borders(wdBorderLeft).Color = RGB(255, 0, 0)
    .Borders.DistanceFromLeft = 20
  End With
End Sub
