Default Stop hyperlink to a file from changing address - causes problems with pdf

I want to create a hyperlink to a file on a network but every time I choose the file or manually type the address it automatically changes the hyperlink address to "file:///..." which cause problems accessing the file when creating a pdf version of the document. Is there away to stop this happening?
