Deleting the 'NOTE' title with Endnotes
This is my first post. Did a search of the Word thread with no luck. I have an eight chapter book and have placed all my endnotes at "End of Document." I set up a Heading 1 Heading so that it can be navigitable and have a heading for each chapter's notes within the endnotes that is not formatted for the TOC, but that is not a problem. I am not macro-savvy, so I'm kindof fumbling in the dark here. Below my Heading 1 "Chapter Notes" at the start of the endnotes, the endnotes have inserted by default the "NOTE" header. I deleted the separator line some time back, but when I go to View > Draft and Show Notes, I cannot access this title. Is there another way, without diving into Macros that I can scrub this default title? Thanks, Frank |

If you switch to Draft view and click References > Show Notes, you should be able to view the Endnote Separator as well as the Endnote Continuation Separator. Could the "NOTES" text have been incorporated into either of those?

Stefan,
I tried what you said, and chose Endnote Separator and the Default Title of the Endnotes was included there. The first time I deleted the word "Notes" I also deleted the space before it as well and when I returned to Page Layout View, the first footnote only showed the first line of the first note with the rest of it and those following it starting on the next page. So I tried it again and just deleted the five letters, leaving the first space there and that worked. Not sure what formatting was involved, as long as the suggestion solved the issue. Thank you so much. Frank |

Thanks for the follow-up.
Once you have customized an Endnote Separator or an Endnote Continuation Separator, Word may keep reserving space for it. This is a known issue. If everything else fails, you you should be able to select the blank paragraph in the separator and format it as hidden.

Thanks, Stefan. I'll keep that in mind. For this project, the extra space is not an issue as there is quite a bit of space between the Notes heading I have inserted and the first line of text anyway.
Thanks again. Frank |
