Yes I did, a number of times in different documents. It makes no difference unfortunately.

Same is true using Word in safe mode?
Open Office apps in safe mode on a Windows PC - Microsoft Office

I do not think replace has changed in many years. However...

Version of Word 2016? Release?
I am using Version 2007.

Charles, I tried it with your instructions (not including the ^13 in the replace with field) and it appeared to work once on the last footnote but not on the earlier ones.

Another of Word's mysteries. It works here on all using the supplied sample.

When I tried it with the ^p it inserted an extra paragraph mark which could be manually deleted.

I tested it on Word 2016 and tried to set compatibility mode back to 2007 and got the same (didn't work) result that way too.

No such problems in the body of the document, just the footnotes range.

Sorry for the delay Charles,

Yes, I tried in safe mode on both computers.

I'm using MS Office Professional Plus 2013
MS Word 2013 (15.0.4859.1001) MSO (15.0.4849.1000) 32 bit

(as you can see, I've updated my User details)

I do not think Word has changed its replace function in the last 20 years, but I could be mistaken.
